Programme Introduction:

Design Thinking has gained momentum in recent times, given its suitability for strategic value creation as well as resolving complex bottlenecks involving multiple stakeholders. This programme will introduce the participants to the principles and tools behind Design Thinking, as an exploration of the possible challenges that their own organizations might be facing. The programme will employ a hands-on approach to attempt solutions through series of group activities

Programme Objective:

 The program helps managers apply Design Thinking to practical challenges within their organizations. Managers can bring their own problem statements or bottlenecks based on their experiences and observations, and then collaborate across functional teams to craft innovative solutions. This approach emphasizes a human-centric perspective, strategic creativity, and empathy to stakeholders, all aimed at creating better value.

Programme Content :

  1. Introduction: Design Thinking Process and Stage-wise Use of Tools and Techniques
  2. Identifying Problems: Managers bring their own company-specific challenges or bottlenecks encountered within the company.
  3. Empathizing for Insights: Share observations around stakeholder pain points.
  4. Collaborating Cross-Functionally: Collaborate across departments to bring diverse perspectives in problem-solving
  5. Ideating and Brainstorming: Generate wide range of ideas to creative solutions.
  6. Prototyping: Create prototype solutions for specific problem at hand
  7. Testing with User-Centered Approach: Test prototype solutions keeping end-users (or main beneficiary) at the center
  8. Iterating and Refining: Refine solutions based on stakeholder feedback.
  9. Pitching for Change: Champion change and present solutions and its implementation plan to a panel or the entire cohort

 Programme Methodology:

The programme uses a hands-on approach to learning and encourages managers to bring their own problem statements based on bottlenecks observed in their companies. Managers will apply design thinking tools and techniques to solve real-world problems within their companies. They’ll collaborate in cross-functional teams, identify domain-specific issues, and craft practical solutions.

Programme Pedagogy:

The course emphasizes creativity, brainstorming, and the strategic application of design thinking principles. Classroom discussions, and real-world project will help reinforce the practical application of design thinking tools and techniques

Programme Director:

Dr. Mukul Joshi

 Dr. Mukul Joshi has a PhD in Entrepreneurship and Innovation from IIT Kanpur. His research aims to develop insights into human-centric problem-solving approaches by startups and innovative entrepreneurs. He is interested in unraveling creativity, design thinking, and strategic innovation principles. He has been teaching Design Thinking, Entrepreneurship, and Strategy Business Simulation courses for post-graduate students. He also teaches doctoral-level courses on qualitative research methodology and the startup ecosystem

 He has been a resource person for training and MDP programs for GAIL and Bayer. He has presented his research at reputed international conferences organized by Strategic Management Society (SMS) and Australian Centre for Entrepreneurship Exchange (ACERE). He has been awarded Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) by the University Grants Commission (UGC). Before his PhD, he was an associate consultant with Infosys Limited.
